Well, the tree isn't going to have the smell of pine, so the smell of the outdoors won't attract them. The reflection of the aluminum tree itself isn't as tempting as the long tinsel hanging from a tree either.

The shiny objects on the tree might attract them, but I don't think you'd be taking any more chances than you would with a pine Christmas tree. If you are worried, you might want to do as I did one Christmas and tie it to a stairwell or something else sturdy. If you use fishing line it won't show. (And put unbreakable bulbs on the bottom of the tree.)

BTW I love the idea of the retro tree.
References :
I have one of these trees too (and the wheel), though mine is only 4 feet. We put it on the train platform, so it seems taller. Sadly, the cat is no longer with us, but when he was here, he was too old to care much about the tree, aluminum or not.
References :
My son will be having a blast this year at Christmas. Is this the only time he is allowed to chase the cats with a fly swatter. Not only do my cats knock off the ornaments, try to eat the Christmas lights or if they are in the mood to be overambitious and mischievous they'll climb the damn thing and try to attack each other. (it's a fake tree)
With your tree, I don't think I would.

Merry Christmas and GOOD LUCK!!
