When I was a kid Christmas was so much more about the spending time with Family and alot of our gifts were from the Heart i remember getting homemade gifts that was truely from the heart . Does anyone else feel this way i want to make this Christmas special for my family any suggestions or even tell me how you spend the holidays that makes them so special to you .
Well, I am impressed! I didn’t think that anyone felt the way I do about Christmas.
For me, Christmas is about family. Being able to spend quality time with family has become very difficult. Therefore, having all my family around me on Christmas day is the best present of all. There are 65 members in my family now and it grows every year. (this includes all the in-laws’ families also)
Gifts are not a predominant factor in my family as most of the children are now 15 yrs and older. In fact, we draw names and all gifts purchased cannot cost any more than $15.
I personally make all of my gifts. As avid knitters, my mother, mother in-law, and I have outfitted everyone with scarfs and mitts, sweaters, and afghans for Christmas. Even my husband makes his Christmas gifts.
Anyway, all the women in my family get together (there is a lot of us) and take a part in making a delicious meal. Since my family is very mixed now that we are almost all married, there are many different ethnic dishes to add to the meal. There are also different traditions added to our Christmas festivities also. We even hide little gifts and give out hints to help find them. There is always a lot of music, fun, and games. Our house is always full on Christmas Day; not just with people but with love and laughter.
Isn’t that what Christmas is all about?

My son goes to his fathers for christmas every year. And we go to the mother-in-laws house. We have a big family get together with simple gifts and lots of food and it is fun.

there should be a 20 dollar limit on gifts at xmas , and i mean for everyone even kids
its meant to be a time for christian values , and i dont remember jesus saying thou shalt spend 3,OOO dollars on your kids , or this is the season to go into debt for the next 6 months

My family’s Christmas
I think it’s mainly just how the times are changing.
Nowadays kids have and want various video game consoles and games, ipods, mobiles, etc. and the most kind of active things they have are bikes.
It would be worth a try to always have their Christmas as traditional, yet fun, as possible – having friends and/or family round for a meal, etc. Unfortunately though not every kid will always like this, they’ll want what their friends have etc
I wasn’t a fan of karaoke but I enjoy this as you can sing along with or just compare scores with someone else. I like trying to beat the others 
Just try to make it as fun as possible so at least people can’t feel, ‘Oh I don’t want to go, it’s so boring’.
Personally, I have a few things to do at Christmas – I have some of those singstar things for the PlayStation 2, it’s karaoke that shows you how you’re doing and announces at the end if you’re tone deaf or not
I also have a few books of questions – these can be both fun and serious, and just nice for getting to know people and even getting to know more about those you already know.
I have a cranium game thing – which has a few different things like charades and pictionary.
Obviously you’ll know better what things your guests would find fun or at least be willing to try. Not everyone is able or willing to get down and try twister
Perhaps kids – maybe even some adults! – would enjoy putting on a little play or something?
But that’s what makes it special for me – having some people round and actually having fun. I want them to have fun and not just come because they feel they have to or something.

"Old fashioned" Christmas to me means lots of time together with family, and making a concerted effort to patch up old grudges, or just trying to make NEW friends.
You could try doing lots of fun things together as a family that involves getting to know each other better – NOT getting caught up in Christmas buying rush. In fact, the notion of "buy, buy, buy," seems to me, a newer one. I don’t think people were as obsessed with "more is better" in Charles Dickens’ time.
How about baking together? Or putting together a gingerbread house? Watching films together?
I’m 24 and I love just sitting around the living room, drinking cocoa, chatting with my family, and enjoying the Christmas tree.
You might want to check out some Christmas plays in your area. Also, look in your local newspaper for Christmas events of all kinds. Perhaps there’s a "festival of lights" event, or something, that you could all go to.
Spending time with family, enjoying good food, taking inventory of our lives and counting our blessings seems pretty "old fashioned" to me – but in a way that will never go out of style.

Old fashioned Christmas is still alive and well. No matter what you do for Christmas make sure that you find lots of time for your family. Homemade gifts are great, but with our busy lives we don’t all have the time to make them. Thoughtful gifts are just as memorable as the homemade ones. Just make sure that you take the time to match the gift to the individual.
Decorating the house for the season should be an event, not just a chore. Involve the entire family in decorating the tree. When you are finished, turn off the lights and admire your handy work.
When my children were young we had cookie day. On Friday night we would mix up 5 to 10 different batches of our favorite cookies and refrigerate them. On Saturday morning we would bake them all. It was great fun. This year I plan to start this tradition with my grandchildren.
Just remember that when your children become adults, what you do now will become Old Fashioned Christmas to them.
