Paper mache. Try taking small balloons like the water ones you can get. Blow them up just a bit so there like the size of an ornament and tie it.
Then mix flour and water together in a bowl to make the mache.
Rip up newspaper into long lengthwise strips.
Take a newspaper strip and dip it into the mache and lay it down around the balloon.Keep putting strips on until the balloon is coverd at least once, maybe even twice making it all as smooth as possible.Leave the tip where you tied up the balloon out so that you can tie a loop of fishing line like string or whatever you have that will work to hang it on the tree later.
Let them dry fully.
When there dry the newspaper all around should feel hardend.
Then have fun painting them or even taking nice fabrics of your choice that you can wrap around tightly and glue/sew, etc.
Thats it.
Also try making other things with the paper mache. Like snowmen (3 balloons on top of eachother) or just see what else you can use to shape different things.Be creative and have fun.
Im sure you guys will be just fine this christmas.Remember its what you make of it and the spirit that you feel and portray.
Dont forget to see if theres any holiday events in your city that is free to the public.
- North Carolina Miscellany » Blog Archive » Robert Ruark Revisited – North Carolina novelist Robert Ruark, who died in 1965, continues to have a small but devoted following. The Wilmington native and UNC alumnus is perhaps best known for his novel The Old Man and the Boy (1957). He was an active sportsman and traveller, and his devotion to these themes in his work meant that he was often eclipsed by the figure of Ernest Hemingway.

So sorry for your loss. Here is one I have done before, came out cute.Take heavy construction paper 8×11 sheet standard size fold in half cut then fold for a fan,the smaller the folds the larger it will work up but have more definition.hold together with a paper clip use glue and glue on a small thing such as ribbon bow or small piece of greenery.I use low temp glue gun. Then take the other half of paper and roll in to a cone, stuff with small amount tissue paper and put one or Two small candy canes in it and hang with ribbon. You can decorate a whole tree this way can be any color you like. You can add any kind of decoration you think looks Christmasey,I did them Victorian, but you don’t have to.That’s the simplest I got and children can make them too.If all else fails get a box of Christmas card with glitter or gold embellishment and cut out the deigns with a pinking shears hang with ribbon.Hope this helps.Blessings.

I love the country look. One year I bought the flat wooden ornaments from Michaels- less than one dollar- you could paint them, but I actually glue real birdseed to them and attached a small red bow with ribbon and a loop for hanging.
You can also use scrap fabrics- and styrofoam round balls and push the fabric all around the ball to make ornaments. Use a pin to attach the loop for hanging.
Then for garland you can make strings using real popcorn and cranberries.
I hope this helps.
