I’m no Martha Stewart, but I wanna nice Christmas tree, and I can’t afford to put any money into it.
I like the ones in the store, but they are like $20 for a box, or $1 or $2 apiece, and that is just not happening for me this year.
The tree is 7ft tall, and it currently has 2 dozen glitter stars, 18 gold balls, 3 streams of gold garland, and gold and red beads and lights of course.
Ive made some homemade ornaments with gold glitter out of old christmas cards, a John Lennon pic, and some family pics. But I’m tired of glitter picture frame ornament, what else can I do.
I have gold glitter, glue, & red ribbon, and am willing to buy more supplies if necessary.
Go to the park and collect those big pinecones(not the sticky kind) Put them in a warm place if they haven’t opened . Spray with hairspray and add glitter and tie a ribbon on the end to hang on the tree. I still use mine from when my daughter was little. she’s now 33. If you have kids, you can keep them busy by giving them glue and coloured beads ,green paint and pinecones.. When they are done the cones look like decorated Christmas trees !

When the kids were small and money was unavailable, we made ornaments out of dough (we found the recipe on a box of baking soda). We made the dough and used cookie cutters to cut out shapes, baked , and hand painted them. It was loads of fun and the tree was beautiful.
Fifteen years later, and there are still several on the tree each year. They make wonderful conversation pieces and have become family treasures.

If you know how to crochet you can make little snowflakes & little stockings. Since you have ribbons you can make bows. You can also hang candy canes & popcorn balls. You could also make paper snowflakes. I’ve also heard of people emptying out light bulbs & making them into Christmas ornaments. I hope at least some of these ideas help you.

Salt dough ornaments are cheap, fun, and easy. 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt, 3/4 cup of water (little more if needed). Flour your work surface and rolling pin. Roll out dough, cut with cookie cutters or make your own designs, use a straw to make the hole for hanging, bake on cookie sheet in a 275 degree oven for 25 minutes. Cool and paint with acrylic paints. The ornament won’t be totally hard for a few days. I use a clear sealer after I paint to fortify them. You can also make 3D snowmen for a table decoration. If you don’t use all the dough, you can store it covered in the fridge for about a week.

You can buy a few spools of velvet or organza wired ribbon. Tie bows to the tree. The wired ribbon with allow you to form them nicely and they will keep there shape. Bows make for a classy looking tree as well. Good luck and happy holidays

How about making ornament from beads and wire ,angels, baubles,snowflakes.or revamp old baubles using peel offs used in card making or stencils using glue and glitter

All good ideas. Also…try plastic canvas ornaments. They are inexpensive and ornaments make up quick. Buy some small silk roses and babies breath. Get some lace doilies, roll into cone shapes, and tuck flowers into cones. Use ribbon to make hangers to attach to tree. Decorate with glitter if desired.

Go to walmart in the kids craft section. Buy a spool of 20 gage wire, some red beads that kind of look like snowflakes they come in a bag of 100 or 200, also buy a bag of the clear or white. Just string them on the wire alternating colors ( red, white, red, white) then all you have to do is cut them to your desired length, bend both ends so the beads won’t come off the curve the top to make candy canes. The materials will make a bunch. I have about 100 on my tree and it cost less than 10.00. I attach them to the tree with the ornament hangers that you would buy for Christmas balls.
