There are some scuff marks, not scratches or anything, on the rim of the plate. This is to be a Christmas present. I know it can’t look new, but does anyone know how to take these marks off?
Thanks!
you can try rubbing the spots with baking soda and milk. Sometimes that works. That will also sort of cover the craze marks in the glaze and make them not quite so noticible.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackTry a magic eraser. I’ve been told that will get anything off and it won’t be likely to damage it.

Handle true antiques with care. Cleaning is one thing, cleaning to remove things caused by use may degrade its value. Proceed with care.

…..of course it depends on what caused the scuff marks in the first place; I have had a lot of difficulty removing scuff marks on chinaware causes by metal (such as the metal grids in a dishwasher) – they are almost impossible to remove;
but I have had great success in using white TOOTHPASTE…
it shouldn’t hurt to try it on your platter .. might be worth a try
..good luck
