Our son is 6 months old and will be almost 7 months by Christmas. We have very little money, I’m working part time and I don’t want to load him up with a bunch of toys. Both sets of grandparents are going to spoil him rotten for Christmas so I want to get him ONE meaningul gift that we eventually put away for when he is older to mark his 1st Christmas. We already got the 1st Christmas ornament at the baby shower this summer. I suppose I could buy my own but any other suggestions?
My mom got us a "time capsule" for our son’s first Christmas. It included forms everyone could fill out and sign telling what they were like at that time as well as their impressions of their little baby/grandchild/cousin/nephew. They also had suggestions for other things to put in the time capsule. Picture, newspaper articles, takeout menus showing the prices of different foods at restaurants, etc. It then locks up not to be opened until some pre-determined date. I think it will be fun to open.

Scrapbook!Get a photo album in which you can make little notes.Take pictures galore of him on Christmas day,Feeding him,in his Christmas outfit, with grandmas and grandpas.Take all kinds of pictures and paste them to this book/photo album.Make little notes of the day.Things he did, movements he made etc etc. When he gets older,he can look back and read about his first Christmas. The ornament, once you have used it…you can hotglue it in also and make sure you write who got it for him.I know you may want it for the tree, but that technically was his first Christmas ornament. That will be meaningful as well when included in the book.Happy Holidays! Congrats on addition!

I would just get something simple–all he’s going to do is eat the wrapping paper and box anyway…LOL
If you want to get something sentimental, then maybe a photo frame with Baby’s First Christmas and a family photo. Things Remembered has all sorts of stuff they can engrave. You could start a tradition to get your child something special for their first Christmas, and have them pass it on to their children…..
Good luck, and enjoy your first Christmas with your precious little one!!!

he would certainly enjoy a car or motorbike when he is older, get him a Harley Davidson

Since you are looking for something that is meaningful/sentimental and he isn’t going to remember getting the gift and is something you will keep for him for later. Take a picture of your son "opening presents" on Christmas day and put it in a "baby’s first Christmas" frame. Or start a Christmas scrapbook to give to him later when he will appreciate it more.

I would buy him a Christmas book. There are so many beautifully illustrated Christmas books out there (not to mention the good old Grinch). You can make a tradition of reading it to him every year.

I agree – pictures are always good! As a first Christmas it’s a sweet thing to have a little reminder! But really all babies want is a box! It’s their best play toy

A special children’s book; one that you enjoy reading. Read it to him several times a week starting now. When he’s older, sitting with you and listening as you read will be one of his favorite things to do. Congratulations on you new baby (our first granddaughter came this past Tuesday) and Merry Christmas.

I just got a simple toy that lights up and makes noise. It will be special if you keep it in a memory box as ‘the first Christmas present’
